Heidelberg, Germany is a gem of a destination! The city is charming and exudes a youthful vibe due to the draw of the University of Heidelberg. The surrounding mountains and the calm of the Neckar River give off a quiet feeling although the city is bustling with tourists, students, and locals.

Heidelberg Altstadt Germany

Our hotel, the NH Hotel Collection Heidelberg is less than a 10-minute walk to the Altstadt or Old Town. They offer comfortable and spacious rooms, friendly and accommodating staff, and a superb breakfast. There are also public transportation options conveniently located from the hotel. This is the perfect place to stay during a visit to Heidelberg!

Neckar River Germany

Key attractions in Heidelberg can be enjoyed by strolling through the city, taking public transportation, or even a boat cruise on the Neckar River. They include the Alte Brücke (Old Bridge), Marktplatz, the famous sandstone castle Schloss Heidelberg, the Neckar River, and the spectacular view from the local mountain King’s Chair by way of the funicular railway dating back to 1907. Of course, the Hauptstrasse (main street) in the Old Town is the longest pedestrian walkway in Europe lined with great shopping, international restaurants, cafes, and plenty of ice cream shops!

We ate at Restaurant Sahara on main street, where we were served delicious Mediterranean food including vegetarian dishes. Our second dinner was at Ristorante Da Baggio where we enjoyed artfully presented antipasti and pasta & pizza in a stylish dining room and in their leafy courtyard. After a stroll along the Neckar we had late-night drinks at Hemingway’s, including the best Cosmopolitan ever!
