Klagenfurt Austria

Klagenfurt, a city full of charm, art and history

Klagenfurt is the capital of Carintia, a very modern city but full of history which is easy to perceive after strolling through some of its charming streets, between their well-preserved Renaissance buildings, picturesques squares and lovely cafes. The city’s landmark, the Lindwurm Fountain, which you can find in the central Neuer Platz, is a testament to Klagenfurt´s rich heritage and the mythological tales that surround it.

The lush surroundings of the city’s parks and gardens provide the perfect spots to relax and soak in the tranquil atmosphere. Meanwhile, art enthusiasts will be drawn to the Museum of Modern Art and the Diocesan Museum, both of which offer fascinating insights into the region’s cultural legacy. Besides its historical sites and cultural attractions, it has easy access to the lake, making it a key destination.

Wörthersee, Austria´s Riviera

Just a short drive from Klagenfurt (between 8-15 minute drive or train) lies Wörthersee, one of Austria’s largest and most popular lakes, famous for its crystal-clear waters and stunning alpine backdrop which it’s often referred to as Austria’s Riviera.During the summer months, the perfectly turquoise waters welcome visitors and become a hub of activities where people enjoy swimming, boating, and water sports. The surrounding hills offer excellent biking trails and hiking, providing panoramic views of the lake and landscape. The towns and villages dotting the lake´s shores, such as Velden and Pörtschach, are renowned for their elegant villas, fine dining and vibrant nightlife. Romantic getaway or family vacation, Wörthersee has it all.

These villages provide a mix of cultural experiences, natural beauty and recreational activities, making them top spots for tourists visiting Wörthersee.

Some of the most touristic villages around are:

2.Pörtschach am Wörthersee, this picturesque village is famous for its beautiful promenade and traditional Austrian charm, not to mention the annual Ironman Austria triathlon.

3.Maria Wörth, my personal favorite attraction. Located on a peninsula, it’s known for its stunning church and scenic views, the atmosphere is quiet and spiritual.

4.Krumpendorf am Wörthersee, a quiet village, it’s popular for its beautiful lakeside parks and beaches, offering a more relaxed experience.
